What is the Difference Between Rolled Canvas, Stretched, and Framed Artwork?

Curious about rolled canvas, stretched artwork, and framed artwork? Start here!

Disclaimer: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our framing partner is experiencing delays of up to 40 days. If you have an important date by which you want your artwork complete, reach out to our Paintru Concierge to discuss how we can get you your artwork as quickly as possible!

In the same way that it's important to choose the right medium for your artwork, it's important to choose the right frame. This article will briefly summarize the difference between our rolled, stretched and framed options.

Table of Contents:

  1. Rolled Canvas (No Frame)
  2. Stretched Artwork
  3. Framed Artwork

1. Rolled Canvas (No Frame)

When our artists begin work on your project, they will start with a completely blank canvas sized in accordance with your specified dimensions. Our artists will leave enough canvas on the sides to stretch the painting for framing. When the painting process is complete and you have approved your artwork via our Wet Painting Revision process, your artist will allow the paint to dry before rolling the artwork to ship it to our warehouse in Mentor, Ohio.

When we receive your artwork in our warehouse, we will send it to you rolled in a beautiful tube that can be used to gift your artwork to its intended recipient.

Rolled artwork can be professionally framed by your favorite framer later or can be displayed in your home for a rustic, casual look like this -

2. Stretched Artwork

For stretched artwork, our artists will begin working on a blank canvas as they do for all of our paintings. The artist will be sure to paint beyond the boundaries of your preferred size so that when we wrap the artwork around the stretcher bars, it continues onto the sides of the painting like this -

Our stretched artwork is shipped boxed from our warehouse in Ohio and is ready for the wall as is.

3. Framed Artwork

Our framed artwork is professionally hand-painted from scratch and shipped from our artists, rolled in a tube to our warehouse in Ohio. From there, we send it on to our framing partners, Simply Framed, to stretch and frame your artwork. We offer different framing options depending upon what medium you would like your piece completed in.

For oil paintings, we use canvas float frames without matting or acrylic covering. These frames present your artwork in the best way, and with no acrylic covering, you will be able to see the texture of the brushstrokes and smell the oils. This multisensory experience is a hallmark of our product.
